Applying prescription topical fluoride may benefit patients with a higher risk for developing caries, according to new clinical recommendations.

Washington— The Association commended public health provisions in a global mercury treaty that “upholds the use of dental amalgam, a durable, safe, effective cavity-filling material.” The United States signed and offered acceptance documents Nov. 6, joining other nations in moving the legally binding treaty forward.

Silver Spring, Md. – The U.S. Food and Drug Administration will recommend a more restrictive classification of certain pain medications prescribed by physicians and dentists to “increase the controls on these products.” The decision could lead to a reclassification by the Drug Enforcement Administration of hydrocodone-containing combination drug products such as Vicodin.
